The Kennecott Utah Copper project came about rather slowly, to a point, that is, until the light globe came on. When it dawned on me that the mine site has some incredibly beautiful aspects to it, I decided to make it a self assignment. I determined to give an artistic interpretation to the area in hopes of helping viewers see that it is indeed an accidental piece of earthen art. I've taken several hundred photographs of the area during a period spanning over two years. The winter is probably my favorite time to photograph the area. The snow helps detail stand out and, in some cases, helps simplify the scene.
